Beethoven auf dem weg zum Frieden poster

Beethoven on his way towards peace

When we hear about Beethoven, the first thing we think of is his lush, unruly hair and his fiery temper. The Pathetique Sonata, the 5th Symphony – their author tries to grab fate by the throat and is ready to die so as not to be a puppet in its hands.

How did the author of these works, how did this whirlwind of emotions, ready to tear apart for a lost penny, turn into the main pacifist on the musical Olympus?

Using the example of three sonatas, Timofei Kazantsev shows how Beethoven worked throughout his life to resolve his main conflict: between free will and the injustice of the world. How Beethoven constructed the musical form of his sonatas, and how his musical architecture led him to harmonize with the world and call for peace.
